Home PC Repair 101: Understanding The Fundamentals

When my youngest son's laptop suffered a sudden hard drive failure, I was struck by how little I actually knew about how to fix it - or if it could be fixed. After talking with my local technical support and computer repair specialists, I decided it was time to learn. I didn't want to find myself in a similar position again without some idea of what I could do about it. I spent months researching the logistics of computer repair and how the components worked together. That's when I realized that although computers are in so many homes, many other people are just like me - unsure how to deal with computer problems. I created this site to help solve that problem. I hope the information here helps you to demystify your home computers and the problems you might have with them.

Have A Small Business? Make Sure You Have A Disaster Recovery Plan

If you have a small business, it has likely taken you years to develop it and become successful. Think about losing everything if you have a disaster without a disaster recovery (DR) plan in place. This is common as 75% of small businesses do not have a disaster recovery plan in place. If this happens to you, it may take you years to get your business back up and running again or you may never even reopen. To help you prevent this from happening, below is information about disaster recovery plans so you can hire a company to help you.

Why Your Business Needs a DR Plan

Hackers often target small businesses when they are planning their cyberattacks. This is because small businesses' computer networks may not be as secure as large companies that can afford to hire the right employees. If this happens you may lose all the information on your servers and the hacker will have personal information about you, your companies' financials, your customers, and more.  If you have a DR plan in place the right software will be installed on your network to prevent this from happening. A good backup plan will also be put in place to recover the files that were stolen for you.

The company you hire to set up your DR plan will ensure all software that is installed on your network is set to automatically update. This is important as new viruses, malware, and spyware are created every day. This company will also check the backup system to make sure it is working properly. They will likely set it up to do a backup at the end of each day.

Setting Up a DR Plan

When it comes to a DR plan, the company will help you set up a statement of goals to outline what your company needs to do if you have a disaster. This includes the amount of data that may be lost during a disaster, and the recovery time it will take to get things set back up after the disaster. This will allow you to make plans for how long your system may be down, which may be a few hours or longer.

The DR plan will also list the procedures that are taken after a disaster. This will include things like backing up your system and the list of cybersecurity attacks you had.
